Our Apprentice Program might be right for you! Click HERE for more info.

Q: Do I need to be certified?

A: Not necessarily. It will depend in large part on which state you are located and operating in. NIKIA is a legally registered LLC, operating as a mobile hair styling company in Bethesda, MD, providing services to a wide variety of clients. We do not operate a brick and mortar salon space or employ cosmetologists for regulated cosmetology or Advanced Practice services. If you have questions about the services you intend to provide, you should refer to the Board of Cosmetology in your state and consult your attorney.

As a Freelance Independent Contractor for NIKIA you are expected to possess and maintain your professional hair kit to be equipped with all products and tools necessary to complete assigned work. It will be expected that you maintain your personal work schedule via google calendar. Outside of that, all other work in order to obtain clients is done by NIKIA. We manage all client correspondence, contracts, payments, scheduling etc. Working for NIKIA is as simple as showing up and executing beautiful hairstyles and keeping your schedule up to date so we can book work for you.

Q: What can I expect to be paid from NIKIA?

A: NIKIA is proud to offer competitive compensation to our team of hairstylists. Hairstylists will be paid 50% per service. In addition to being paid for the services you complete on a NIKIA  job, you will also be reimbursed for any parking charge you incur as well as be compensated for travel if the job location exceeds 25 miles roundtrip outside of your contracted area. NIKIA also guarantees payment if the client should cancel their appointment outside of our cancellation policy. NIKIA also offers bonus opportunities for positive reviews, client referrals and more!

Q: Do I need liability insurance?

A: Yes. NIKIA hairstylists are required to carry liability insurance and list NIKIA as an additional insured. We are a mobile hair styling company, operating in other people's homes, work spaces, or venues and we need to ensure you are covered if an accident were to occur.

Q: Do I need to have a portfolio?

A: In short - Yes. However, many hairstylists work in editorial and corporate environments and do not own the rights to their work. Should you not have a website, online portfolio, or other showcase of work, you must be able to show credit of your work in professional applications, proof of a beauty education, and / or demonstrate your hairstyling ability.

Q: Do I need to own a car?

A: No. Our clients are "on-location", as will you be. Having a secured and reliable form of getting from point A to point B is required. Acceptable forms of transportation are your own car, Uber or Lyft.

Q: Do I have to sign a contract?

A: Yes. NIKIA hairstylists represent our brand. By contracting with NIKIA you agree to maintain a google calendar for accuracy, wear the NIKIA brand T-shirt to all appointments and to refrain from cross-promoting your (or other businesses) while working with NIKIA clients. You are contracted under a freelance contract and paid by the job. We reserve the right to terminate our agreement at any time. We also reserve the right to pursue legal action against you, should you violate the terms of your contract maliciously.

Q: Do I have to supply my own kit?

A: Yes. As with all freelance opportunities, you are self-employed. NIKIA expects you to represent its brand and your talent by presenting a professional image with an organized kit of professional supplies. You must also be equipped to work with all hair types. Please inquire if you are uncertain which supplies may meet the requirements.

Q: Will you do a background check on me?

A: Yes. Our client's privacy and safety is very important to us, as well as the safety of our stylists. We will not knowingly send a convicted criminal or individual with a background of abuse, arrests, or other misdemeanors into our client's homes. If you are unwilling to have a background check processed or are unsure about its outcome, a partnership with NIKIA may not be the right fit for either party.

Q: When should I expect to hear back?

A: It is our goal to respond to everyone. If you don't hear from us within a week, please be patient. If you feel that we have overlooked your inquiry, please send an email to [email protected] .
